3G, short for "Third Generation Wireless," is the next generation high-speed mobile system based on GSM. 3G supports broadband, packet-based transmission of voice, text, multimedia, and video data at rates from 384 kbps to 2 Mbps. At the heart of 3G is the aim to provide mobile users, wherever they may be, with the same high speed services offered by broadband. With 3G, the mobile user can access high speed internet, videoconferencing, and basic video/TV services.

3G can support a minimum of 2 Mbps for stationary or slow-moving users (walking) and 384 kbps for fast-moving vehicles (in an auto or train). Compare this to rates of 9.6-40 kbps for 2G and 2.5G systems.

3G was developed to address the ever-growing consumer demand for mobile network capacity and services. From the youth-inspired excitement for SMS to a need for seamless connectivity to the corporate network while traveling, consumers have embraced the benefits of mobility. The ITU (International Telecommunication Union) started the process of defining the 3G standard back in the mid-1980s. In 1998, the 3GPP (Third Generation Partnership Project) was established to continue developing the 3G specifications. The 3GPP is a global body that brings together several telecommunications standards bodies from Europe, Japan, the United States, Korea, and China.

Here are just a few of the benefits of 3G technology:

- While on the road, a manager can conduct a teleconference with colleagues to discuss an upcoming presentation. He can download the latest version, make edits online, all while talking.

- Users can take advantage of mobile video on demand to watch news, sports highlights, and video clips anytime on their mobile devices.

- 3G gives mobile staff access to critical applications like Customer Relationship Management (CRM) applications. For example, field engineers can view a customer's profile from the road, update their files, and even close the trouble ticket while on site. Sales people can create and place orders while still at the customer's location.

iPod Error - iTunes Could Not Contact the iPod Software Update Server

To update or restore an iPod, you first need to download and install the latest version of iTunes. Update refers to the process of simply updating the software that controls the iPod and doesn't affect the stored data. However, restoring an iPod implies erasing all the data from it and getting it back to its original factory settings. After restoration, you need to use your recent data backup or commercial iPod Data Recovery applications to get the lost data back. But at times, you find errors while trying to update or restore your iPod.

As an example, when you try to update or restore your iPod using iTunes 7 or later, you might receive the following error message:

"iTunes could not contact the iPod software update server because you are not connected to the Internet. Make sure your Internet connection is active and try again."

Cause

As suggested by error message, this error occurs when Internet access is not available that could download the available updates for iPod. In some cases, the reason could be faulty LAN settings.

Solution

Try resolving the existing issue by following these steps:

Make sure that the Internet access is available
If you can connect to the Internet using Internet Explorer and access the iTunes Store, use these steps:

Launch Control Panel using Start menu

Next, you need to open Internet Options control panel

You should then click the Connection tab and click the LAN Settings button

You can then select the 'Automatically detect settings' checkbox. Click OK in both of the windows that appear

You can try again to restore or update your iPod by reopening iTunes and connecting your iPod. It should be successfully updated or restored.

If you have performed iPod restoration, use your existing backup to get the lost files and folders. If in any case, you observe that data backup cannot give the required data, it is suggested to use iPod Recovery applications. These are special purpose iPod Data Recovery applications designed to offer effective lost data recovery from crashed iPods.

Ultrasound is a highly successful field all over Canada and it will probably remain this way for a long, long time. However, ultrasound schools in Ontario are few and hard to find. Let me help you find Ultrasound Technician Training in Ontario, Canada and become a part of this successful field. But first, let me answer a few basic questions.

What is Ultrasound?

Ultrasound is an imaging technique that uses high-frequency sound waves reflecting off of internal body parts to create images for medical examination.

Where to Find Ultrasound Technician Schools in Ontario, Canada

It is mostly used to check the baby inside the mother before it is born. It is also used to identify pathologies such as gallstones, kidney stones, cancers, hematomas and tumors.

How much do Ultrasound Technicians near Toronto make?

Ultrasound technicians (aka Ultrasonologists) are the people responsible for operating ultrasound machines that create the digital images used to visualize the internal body parts.

Compared to other branches of medicine, this field is not very competitive in Ontario and an Ultrasonologist working in the Toronto Area now earns an average annual salary of ,572. Half of those in this position would earn between ,898 and ,546 (the 17th and 67th percentiles). These numbers are derived from area-specific government survey data.

So as you can see, it is well paying!

Where Do I Find Ultrasound Technician Schools in Ontario?

Well, you have a few options.

1) If you have the money and the required prerequisites, you can choose to go to an established Ultrasound Institute in Ontario, this can take anywhere from 2-3 years. The costs can be around 00-4000 per year depending on which University to go to. Due to long waiting lists, you may not find entry easily. The only well-known university offering a Post Diploma Ultrasound program in Ontario is Michener Institute.

So what are your alternatives?

2) The other way, and the one that I suggest is learning Ultrasound from an instructor who has experience teaching Ultrasound but is not necessarily working as part of an Institute. Why do I suggest this? Don't you have to go to a certified institution? The answer, plain and simple is NO.

As long as you have the right skills, many ultrasound clinics will hire you as a "trainee-ultrasonogist" without requiring any special certification. After working with such clinics for about a year, you will be eligible for writing your ARDMS examination and becoming a licensed ultrasonogist. This process can take as little as 1 year and 4 months of study and as little as 00 in investment.

Where do I find such an Instructor?

The one that I personally recommend if you are looking for Ultrasound Technician Schools near Toronto is the Mainz Ultrasound Training (located in Mississauga).

UPDATE: Mainz Ultrasound has recently changed their prerequisites to only accept students who already have some ultrasound background.

Why should you choose Mainz Ultrasound? Here's a few reasons:

2. It is very inexpensive compared to other options

3. The courses are short -> Only 14 weeks to start working in the field

4. It is taught only on weekends -> You can work or study during the week

6. They offer personalized, hands-on, one-on-one training with equipment

7. The classes are small and personalized.

What if I live outside of the Greater Toronto Area?

If you live outside of the GTA, you might want to check out Mohawk College. They have campuses in Hamilton and Brantford, Ontario. Starting fall 2008 and Winter 2009 they have a Diagnostic Cardiac Sonography (also known as Echocardiography) program which will last approximately 54 weeks. You can also look for ads for ultrasound technician schools or tuition in your local newspaper in the classifieds section. If you can't find a place, I suggest going to an ultrasound clinic and talking to the staff members there and asking where they studied ultrasound. Chances are, they can guide you to the right place.

The PCAT is the Pharmacy College Admissions Test used by most pharmacy schools as one of the admission criteria. Luckily, not all pharmacy schools require the PCAT. In fact, there are many students every year who do not have to study nor pay for the PCAT and only apply to schools that do not require it. For these Pharm.D. programs that do not require the PCAT, other factors such as your grade point average (GPA), work experience (not mandatory but strengthens your application), interview performance, letter of recommendations, ECs, and other factors (which I discuss in my other article) determine your eligibility for acceptance.

Some application tips:

-Find out if the schools you are applying for are on a rolling admission system. If they are, it is imperative that you turn in your application as soon as possible as it will increase your chances of gaining an interview and in turn, a nice envelope with your acceptance.

-Prepare for the interview by going over previous interview questions. These can be found on Student Doctor's interview feedback section. I have also listed the most common interview pharmacy school questions in another article. During your preparation, do not make your answers sound rehearsed but natural and well-thought out.

-Gain Pharmacy Work Experience. Although not mandatory, what better way to show an admission committee that you are serious about pursuing this career path than working in a pharmacy. You may want to consider obtaining a pharmacy technician license to have more responsibilities at a pharmacy. Without a license, you can still volunteer or work as a pharmacy clerk in most states.

-If you are an international student, you may also want to check to see if the school require the TOEFL by checking the required tests chart on the PharmCAS website.
